Ministerial. — Yesterday's Evening Post aays : — " There waa a rumor in town ; to-day that Mr. Tanered had joined the Ministry, and was to be called to the Upper House." Supbeme Court, — But one case, tbat of Begina v. Toole for larceny from a dwelling, is sob down for trial at the next session of the Circuit Court, which takes place on Monday next. There is also one civil case, namely, the Bank of Otago v. Pike for £668. j •Gbicket. — A match was played on the j 29th instant between the Lower Moutere j and Pangatotara clubs which resulted in a j victory for the latter. — A cricket match was j also played at Dovedale, on Easter Mon- j day, between an eleven from the Moutere j and .the Dovedale cricket club,, which j resulted in an easy victory for the latter, the Dtwedale men scoring in their first innings 66, and the Moutere in the first inpings 15,, and the second 14. Easter Decorations at Canterbury. —The Press of April lst says:— "The various Anglican churches were prettily decorated yesterday, St. Luke's and St. John's being particulary noticeable for the taste displayed by the parties carrying ont the work. At St. John's the arches springing across the building were wreathed with evergreens and flowers, and also over the doors. Id St. Luke's, evergreens, flowers, wheat, &c, were prettily blended, tbe whole baviog a very nice effect. The Easter oiferiDg at St. John's, which is devoted to the Incumbent, amounted to £35 8s 6d." In Nelson both the decor-, ations and the offerings were conspicuous only by their absence. Lincoln Sheep. — As a great deal of attention is now being paid in New Zea- j land to the breeding of large-framed, longwooled sheep, the following account of j what bas been realised, and may therefore be realised again, from a Lincoln ewe may I prove of interest to those engaged jn , pastoral pursuits. The sheep was killed at Deptford, England, at the age of 4 years and 9 months. The dead weight, per quarter was 671b5., the total live weight 3641b5. The length of wool was 12 inches, and during its lifetime four fleeces had been clipped from it of the aggregate weight of 601b5., the wool fetching 2s. per lb. The total money return as realised from the four fleeces, five lambs, and carcass was estimated at £23 10s. * Charleston and Nelson Streets. — The Charleston Herald complaining of j the state of the streets in that town says : — -■ One hole in Princes-street particularly, is most daDgerous, through which at any moment we should not be surprised to j hear of some child falling and being dangerously injured. Nelson Proper is kept neat and tidy, and all the stones j iv the streets above the size of a marble j smashed down by men kept continually on i tbe streets for the purpose, whilst the J coast townships, which provide the revenue, must perforce be content to put up with whatever Mr Curtis and his Executive think proper." We might suggest tbat Charleston streets, like those of Nelson , might also be kept neat and tidy if the same means were adopted there as here, where we tax ourselves for the express purpose. We learn from Canterbury that Messrs. Hall's run at Lake Tekapo, consisting of j 60,000 acres, with 2000 sheep was sold J to Mr. A Cox for £13,000. I
