February 26. — The Ministerial banquet I at Stawell was more successful than the previous one. The cabinet makers' strike, after eight weeks standing out, has been brought to a close. Midding, the manager who was indicted for manslaughter for causing the death of a miner by allowing an unsound rope to be used, has been acquitted. Trevanon, a wealthy Bendigo mining speculator, has been charged with a criminal offence on a little girl. Attempts to hush the matter up were prevented by tbe Crown, and a preliminary investigation has been made. George Bowsker has committed suicide by placing himself in front of a railway engine. fhe Qovernment have ordered the con* struction of eleven Bog wagons. fhe personalty of the hon. .George Rolfe is sworn under £48,000. At the Majorca claim stone has been struck 20 feet thick, which is estimated to yield 140 ounces to the ton. Subsequently, one still richer was reported. The Great Btitain, Captain Grey, with 380 passengers, mostly assisted Government emigrants, arrived in 60 days,
John Hartley, accused of stealing a racehorse at Otago, has been arrested and remanded to New Zealand. He denies being Ihe man.
