THE Telegraph Commissioner is prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of SIX HUNDRED and FORTY (640) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less, for a line of Telegraph between the City of Nelson and the Town of Motueka. The poles to be sawn from the heart oj totara. The poles to be of the following dimensions :— twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long, in proportions hereinafter to be determined, but the" greater portion will be twenty (20) feet long, to be eight (8) inches square at the butt, and six (6) inches square at the top. The poles to be sound, straight, and free from shakes, knots, and sap. N.B. — No pole will be accepted which contains the least sap or speckled timber. The poles will have to be delivered at points not less than four (4) cbait?s apart, along a line of telegraph to be hereafter more particularly indicated by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, along the present coach road between the City of Nelson and the Town of Motueka. The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist April, 1872, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date of signing the contract, under a penalty of five pounds (£5) per diem for every day beyond the time specified, 'which penalty will be recoverable from the contractor from any sums that may be, or become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will be made at the rate of eighty (80) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on comletion of contract. The contractor will not be allowed to let or -sub-let bis contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenderers are to specify the price per pole as per sizes given. ' Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of twenty-five pounds (£25) as a guarantee of good .faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer, should he refuse to take up the tender in the 'event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to become bond for the due performance of the contract in the event of the tender being accepted, and must be accompanied by a notification to that effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders endorsed, " Tender for the supply of sixhundred and forty (640) Poles, more or less, for telegraph line between Nelson and Motueka," and addressed, " The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington," must be sent in not later than the Ist March next.
