London, Dec. 1. Wool. — The wool sales commenced Nov. 23, nnd close Dec, 7. There were catalogued to date 38,600 bales. The attendance of foreign and home buyers was large, and competition very brisk. At the commencement, September prices were fully supported, but afterwards combing, clothing, and scoured wool, from Sydney, Melbourne, or New Z3filand, brought id. and lid. advance. The next sale commences Feb. 8. The market is lv althy, active, and eucouraging for buyers. Phormium — The Alexandrina had arrived from Auckland with \UO hales of phormium. Since Nov. 13 the market hns been very firm; 1500 bales had been offerel at auction, and all sold, showing an advance of 30s. ton during the • month. Considerable business has also been done for America iv secondhand parcels at .£27 to £30 a ton. There was a demand for low sorts at £23, but was very scarce. Kauri Gust. — The kauri cum market remains quiet 3.000 cases were offered at auction, and a portion so!<3 at los. to 12s. for dressed, and 355. to jO.*. for bright well scraped. Tallow —Shipments of tallow from Australia for the month were short. The market hardened; lor Y. C. Australian mutton, 455. to 4Ss.; beef, 45s to 4Rs. Neav Zealand Peccrities — Sixes, 110 to 112; Fives, 102 to 103; Consolidated Fixes, 111 Ito U4. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile j Agency, {•• to -J premium. Trust and Loan Company, li to If premium. Otago and Southland j Investment, -J- to § premium. New Zealand t Bank, 18J to L9L Bank discount was reduced to 3J on the 13th November. For discount in the open market there is little inquiry at 3 A per cent, to 3£ per cent. There is very little business in the general hhare market. Government securities, 92| to I'Bf.
