THE REAL OPPONENTS OF THE FOXHILL RAILWAY.

To The Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir— Permit me to say that it appears to me that the true opponents of the Foxhill railway scheme are its professed supporters, for they one and all (as far as I am in a position to judge of their advocacy of the scheme; I must be very cautiouß in these Nelson days of harping on tbe letter at the cost of killing the spirit) eventually fall back when pressed in «r'gument on the subject, to the temporary advantage tbat would arise from the expenditure that would take place in its construction. One will say in support of said railway, " never mind about the use of it, let us have the money spent in the place." Another will say, "never mind if a train never runs on it, let us bave the

railway." These expressions are so common aud so universal among the supporters of the Foxhill railway scheme that Idou't wonder for a moment at the General Government snubbing them with their famous expression informing the Nelson public of their intention of proceeding with it leisurely. The real supporters of lhe Foxhill railway are those who advocate the opening up of the interior, aud I think so, for this reason, namely, that it would bring such un amount of traffic to Foxhill, that a railway would be needed. I am, &c, One who believes in Making Roads in preference to talking about Railways.
