THE FOXHILL RAILWAY.

To The Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir—ln common with the majority of your readers, I was much surprised at some of the expressions used in Mr. Lightband's letter, the explaining of which will be a capital opportunity to develope the latent talents of that gentleman when he returns to town. But if I was surprised at this letter, you may guess my astonishment at the Examiner and its correspondence thereon, for the imprudence, nay, impudence, of those who did not elect Mr. Lighfcband coolly suggesting that, he should resign. Resign what ? A position that they never gave him, forsooth ! Let me also ask forbearance (for the love of fair play) for the unmannerly haste and temper of this paper strife during the absence of the writer. In a few days' Mr. Lightband will be here again to take his owu part, when the Examiner foes particularly, may perhaps realise the position of the offending sailor in the theatre, who when assailed by cries of " turn him out," boldly stood up in the characteristic way of a British sailor, assumed a threatening attitude, and faced and silenced the malcontents completely jn au unmistakeable tone of voice, thus :—" It's all very fine to say 'turn him out, turn him out,' but who the h is to do it." The Hue to Foxhill is obvious enough to all our true interests, but the two lines of conduct for those who did, and those who did not elect ihe indiscreet member for the City is evidently an unknown study to your contemporary. I am, &c, H. J. Goodman. January 18, 1872.
