SUBURBAN NORTH TOLL-GATE.
To The Editok of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir—l have seen with regret that it is the intention of the Suburban North Road Board to erect a toll-gate on the
boundary of the town, the Board being evidently actuated by tbe same mean motives that influenced the Waimea Road Board, when they placed tbeir gate ou (if not within) tbe town boundary, viz, to tax the townspeople and save themselves. It is a well-kuowu fact that the road as far as the cemetery has been formed aud maiutained principally at ihe expense of the province, and it is also well-known that the inhabitants rate their holdings at the lowest possible valuations, consequently their united contributions amount to but a very small sum for road purposes. # * # * * * If you will call the attention of the townspeople to this new iniquity, you will oblige Yours, &c, Joseph Webk. Neisou, December 8, 1871.
