Messrs. M'Meckan, Blackwood, & Co's s.s. Rangitoto, Captain Hugh Mackie, with the New Zealand, portion of the English mail via Suez, left Hobson's Bay at 3 p.m. on the 26th ult., cleared Port Philliip heads at 5.30 p.m. same day, and arrived off Hokitika at 2 p.m. on the 31st, having experienced light West winds and fine weather throughout the passage; transhipped passengers, mails, and 50 tons cargo, into the s.s. Waipara and left at 7.35 p.m. for Greymouth, and anchored at 9 40 D.m.. made the usual signals (fired a gun, burnt a blue light, blew the -whistle, fired rockets) and waited until la.m. on the Ist, but seeing no signs of the tender coming out, got under weigh and proceeded on the course for Nelson, arriving off the Boulder Bank, at 7 o'clock lafit evening.
