MELBOURNE.
October 26. — The Ministry is obtaining supplies from the House. The Legislative Council rejected the Tariff Bill by a large majority, and it will probably be reconsidered.. Parliament will be prorogued on the 2nd November. The Murphy pension question has been postponed until to-day in order to afford an opportunity of testing public opinion. Mr. Cohen has given notice that he will introduce a Bill to render captains and owners of ships responsible for importing destitute persons, from other colonies. A movement is on foot against closing respectable places of recreation on Sundays. Mr. Duffy's health is improving. The Government proposes to subsidise the eclipse expedition. A number of private individuals are going. It has been determined to lengthen the Alfred graving dock, i." ' : ;
