Lately, just at break o' day he was disturbed by a flustering and cackling. Got up and went noislesly into the yard to ascertain tbe cause. In the half light he discerned one favorite fighting bird go over the fence in a very unnatural and peculiar way. Presently another followed in tbe same mysterious and unbirdlike manner. The strange proceeding perplexed him exceedingly. This was ' the game he did not understand,' so he went stealthily round to the other side: of the fence, when his feelings were shocked on beholding a Chinaman 'bagging his game.' ■; The tracks that the heathen made were 'quite refreshing to see,' as he left his booty behind, and fowling-tackle, a piece of strong twice, to which was 'attached a peculiar hook. With this ingenious, arrangement, tetnpt- ': ingly baited, he played his little game." '
