THE KELSON GYMNASIUM.

To the Editor of ihe Nelson Evening Mail. Sir, — In reference to a paragraph which appeared in last night's Evening Mail to the effect that the prizes won on Monday would be given at the Gymnasium, I have received a very discourteous letter from an individual signing himself T. Garrard, Lieut. City Eifles. &c.,in which he says (after expressing his surprise at the free use that I have made of tie Hall), that neither myself nor Mr. Edwards will be permitted to enter the Hall to-night for the simple reason that we did not first ask his permission. During my travels iv New South Wales I have attended several of the Gymnasium Clubs, and received several testimonials from the various members for my services, and soon after my arrival here I was invited by several members to attend the Gymnasium, which I did, and offered my services to gratuitously instruct the members to the best of my ability a* soon as my ; racing on Monday was over, and it was ray intention to have been there to-night to take a class in Gymnasium exercise, but as Mr. Garrard, Lieut. City Rifles, &c, has thought proper not to allow me to enter the Hall to-night, (through- not 'first asking Aw permission) I shall not press my services, but at the same time both myself and Mr. Edwards during our stay in Nelson, will be most happy to instruct apy, of the members in' racing, walking, and other, athletic- exercises in the Botanical Gardens or elsewhere.. 4 1 Aljeed Augustus Austin.
