The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1871.

We have to acknowledge the receipt from the Government printer of the three first numbers of Hansard, and several Parliamentary papers. • Mr. John Blackett, C.E^, has been gazetted Assistant Engineer in chief under the " Immigration and Public Works Act, 1850." Public Meeting.— -It is scarcely necessary to remind our readers of the important public, meeting to be held' at the Provincial Hall this evening for the purpose df discussing the proposed Education .Bill, r iM7.V --r ".'■= ■■■ ; :;v ;■■./.;■; . ■jPRAWiNG ' ROdM; ' 'Tfiiß 'Cn'nsi^ fMinstrels" repeated , ; ' thpir ] enlertainmen t /afc '-the ;! : :A^seembJyi '■ Boom ; last night. Bijou Dramatic Company.;—- This^ company gives a dramatic" entertainment this evening, consisting of " Jocrisss the Juggler," some new songs, and the amusiug farce entitled " The Four o'clock Train." The programme is an attractive one, and no pains have been spared by the various actors to render the entertainment a thoroughly successful one. The Missing Boat. — We fear that all hopes as to the safety of the two men, whom we reported on Tuesday as being missing, must be abandoned. Mr. Crawford reports that he has found the wreck of the boat, which is strewn along the Rabbit Island Beach, also the oilskin coats of the men, . and it is therefore supposed that the boat was wrecked in making for the Waimea West entrance. Moke Chinese.— The ship Joshua Bates, with 286 Chinamen, for Dunedin, put into Auckland on the 4th inst. The vessel is in a leaky state, and the Chinamen are suffering badly from scurvy. The passengers have .been placed on the Island of Motuihi for a few days. They will then proceed to their destination. Two of the Chinamen died in harb)r, and three before the chip arrived.
