A Californian has chartered a whole ship to take his crop of wheat to Liverpool this year, thus avoiding all expense for storage, tolls, and middlemen. An, admiring journalist, commenting on this enterprising act, asks with justifiable pride. "Is there an agriculturist in any other State but California, or in any other country but the United States, who can raise 1,200 tons of wheat in one season, then turn shipper and merchant, and sell it in a foreign country in this lordly fashion ! "
