July 27.— Walsh has been returned for Ballarat unopposed. The Assembly has met ; there are thirty-one on the Government 6ide, and thirty-six on the opposition benches. The interim vote of over thirty thousand for salaries was unopposed. The financial statement will be made on August 1. Considerable excitement prevails in commercial circle*, as to the fiscal policy of the new Government. A deputation of soft-goods men interviewed Government with reference to drawbacks on exports, and requested that the duties might; be by measurement instead of ad valorem. The Government declined to disclose their fiscal policy till they came before the House. American importers have succeeded in getting the Commissioner of Customs to reckou the dollar three shillings and nine pence instead of four shillings. The Ministerial banquet at Sandhurst, was a success. The Lincolnshire has arrived with the Marquis of Normanby, Governor of Queensland, the Marchioness, his son, and suite. Woods in the Assembly proposes to sell the Government railways aud extend railway communication with the proceeds. Arrived : The Velocidade, William, from Lyttelton; Magnet, from Greymoutb; and the Great Britain from London. Sailed : Wentworth, for Auckland. Markets. — Flour, £16 per ton; wheat, Adelaide, 6s 8d to 7s ; New Zealand, 6s ; oats, Victorian, 3s 4d to 3s 7d. Mining Shares. — Tookeys, £18; Caledonians, £129. SYDNEY. The Wool Growers' Association have appointed Sir Daniel Cooper, Maclean, Bushy, Hamilton, Alexander, and Lindon, - a Committee to watch over colonial interests.
