To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail.
Sib, — In your report of my unexpected examination in Court yesterday, in relation to my religious belief, I am there reported as saying that I had not thought the subject of future rewards and punishments of "sufficient importance to study it." I do not think I used these words nor any equivalent, and if I did use them, which I still doubt, I did not express my meaniug, for the truth is that I have given the whole subject years of aexious, earnest consideration os other parts of ray replies to questions amply prove. Yours, &c, Wm. Rout. [We are quite disposed to make full allowance for Mr. Rout in his replies to his " unexpected examination," but at the same time we are fully convinced that he did make use of the words ascribed to him. Ed. N.E.M.-]
