THE AWFUL MOA.
{From the Neva- Zealand Herald.) Who in the days of ancient fame, Before the Pakeha Maori came. Kicked up his lively little game ? The Moa ! Who saw Mount Eden crater's gush ? Who saw the red hot lava rush, And then skedaddled in the busb ? The Moa ! Who only laid a single egg ? Who had no wing, but only leg ? Pronounce his fearful name, I beg — The Moa ! Who picked up little Maori boys, As hens pick corn, with tapping noise, Closing their little dusky joys ? The Moa ! Who stood twelve feet without his boots, Who collared boys and grubbed for roots, Who didn't care for mild cheroots ? The Moa ! Whose bones have puzzled Mr. Owen, And been discussed by Governor Bowen, Who said, indeed, there was no knowing The Moa ! Whose Btomac?k had a strong digestion, Who'd soon settle the native question ? (A very powerful suggestion) — The Moa ! Then fill the goblets to the name Of that old cock of ancient fame, Who has gone and played his little game — The Moa !
