POST-OFFICE NOTICES.

MAILS CLOSE.

For Marlborough, Wellington, Napier, and the Southern Provinces of New Zealand, per s.s. Phcebe, immediately on arrival Note. — Correspondence for United Kingdon, via Suez and Brindisi, for India and fhe East, and the Australian Colonies, will be sent forward by ss. Phoebe to be transhipped into s.s. Tararua at Dunedin. As the s.s. Omeo may not call at Nelson this trip, correspondence for the United Kingdom (ii specially marked), and for India and the East, and the Australian Colonies, will be sent to the West Coast by each steamer from Nelson which is likely to meet the Omeo. For Tadmor and "Wangapeka — Close every Tuesday and Friday, at 2.30 p.m., and arrive every Tuesday and Friday, at 11 a.m. Note. — In consequence of the Australian Mails being now conveyed by British Packets between Brindisi and Alexandria, a reduction in Postage on Letters sent via Brindisi has been effected. The rates of Postage to be charged in New Zealand on Correspondence for the United Kingdom, via Brindisi, will therefore he as follows : — Letters. — Not exceeding \ ounce, 9d. ; exceeding \ ounce and not exceeding 1 ounce, 6d. ; and so on, 9d for every additional \ oil-pc or fraction of \ ounce. Newspapers under 4 ounces, each 4d.; for every additional 4 ounces, 4d. Book and Pattern Parcels.— Not exceeding 1 ounce, 2d. ; exceeding 1 ounce an^ noT? 1 exceeding 2 ounces, 4d. ; exceeding 2 ounces am^not exceeding 4 ounces, 7d^*f exceeding 4 ounces~and not exceeding 8 ounces, Is. ?d.; and so on, Is 2d for every additional 8 ounces or fraction of 8 ounces.
