Leave being granted, the Bill was read the Grst aud second time. On the motion of the Provincial Solicitok, the following resolution was, on a division, adopted by 8 to 6 :— That in the opinion of this Council, the operation of the Crown Grants Act. of 1866, has been highly injurious to the public inter ests, and that it is expedient that the same should bd^reaealed. both prospectively and retrospectively >jgKpP lt so far as regards Crown grants issued its enactment. ■ , \ This , Council i?» further ,of opinion that the provision mide in Section 34, of the Nelson Waste L:inite Act, 1863, afforded full protection .to private interests, while it served those of the public by enabling ro.ids through .unoccupied sections of land to be laid out from time to time, as the necessity arose, and in such direction as the altered circumstances of the Colony and a betterSlpowledge of its features proved to be expedient. % _ On the motion of Mr. Gib#^L it was {resolved That this Council^roinks it expedient again to record the opioion expressed by tlie Provincial Council on Thursday May 20, 1869 :— That Crown. Lands when underlease, and Native Lauds in Road Board Districts in the Province of Kelson should be included in any assessment for the maintenance of the roads of the district in which such lands are situated. The Council then adjourned until 11 o'clock to-day.
