The s.s. Taranaki, E. Wheeler, commander, left Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the .""th May. arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 am. on the 6th ; left Lyttelton at 9.30 p.m. on the same night, arrived at Wellington at 4 p.m. on the 7th; left Wellington at 4 p.m. on the Bth, arrived at Picton the same day at 7.30 p.m ; left Picton at 2 a.m. on the 9th, and arrived in our harbor at 11 o'clock, having experienced a succession of fine weather throughout the several passages. The s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell. arrived from the West Coast at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and berthed alongside the Government Wharf .She left Nelson on Saturday the 29th ult. at 6 pm., and arrived off Westport at 2 p.m. the next afternoon, crossing the bar at 5 o'clock. Discharged 20 tons cargo on Monday and left at 7 p.m., crossing the Hokitika bar at 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday; left again at 8 p.m. and came to anchor off Greymouth at 10 p.m , crossed the bar at 8.30 a.m. next morning .Wednesday.") Was detained in Greymouth by the heavy N.W, gale until Friday morning, when the bar was crossed through a heavy surf. Crossed the Buller bar at .8 p.m. same evening ; left again at 10i30 p.mtand arrived as above.
