COMMERCIAL.

Wool. — Accounts to April 6 says: " Since the termination of the first series of wool sales on the 27th ult., there has beeu a considerable amount of enquiry in the London market, but the stock ot old wool having been almost entirely cleared, and merchants being generally iudisposed in the face of the actual prospects to anticipate the April auctions, which will opeu on the 13rh of that mouth, comparatively little business has resulted. It would appear probable that the quantity for sale will reach 180,000 bales, which, however, will include very little wool of New Zealand production. With this comparatively moderate supply, a healthy consumption in the home districts, and the prospects of a good Continental demand, we look forward to tha maintenance of very firm sales during the April-Mi}.' sales. Il ■ New Zealand Flax. — The market for this fibre has been quiet, and the demaud is only moderate. About 3,200 : bales flax and 200 bales tow have been put up to auction, of which about 1,500 and 140 bales, respectively, have been sold ; and the private sales extend to about 800 bales. The better qualities are now—fetching improved prices, while the poorer sorts are a little lower. The following are the currant rates : — Half dressed flax, £14 to £16 per ton ; ditto,, rather better, £16 10s. .to £-18 ss. ; good' three parts dressed, £i&ss. to £23 10s. ; ditto, rather better, £23 las. to £26 ss. ; well cleaned, but mixed in colour, £26 to £28 55. ; superior, £34 ; tow, £12 10s. to £13 10s.
