Resident Magistrate's Cqurt. — The case of Rout v. John and James Avery -was brought on for hearing again this morning, and resulted in the prisoners '■ being committed for trial. Bail was accepted as before. Provincial Council. — A most spirited debate took place in the Council last night in, the presence of a highly appreciative audience, both the body of the Hall and the gallery being well filled with listeners who were now and then a little more demonstrative in their expressions, of approbation or disapproval than is customary on suoh occasions. ■ Nelson Scientific Association. — At the monthly meeting last evening, the Lord Bishop of .Nelson,' vice-president, in the chair, there -was a full i attendance of members.. Two papers ; were read, one, "On the .various kinds .of mulberry trees, with, reference to. their suitableness for I sericulture," joy Mr. T. C. . Batchelor, and the other "On ; the traces of 'Ancient 1 Glaciers' • -in the ! Province of Nelson," by Mr. A. B. Dobson, Provincial- Engineer, both of which gave rise to very interesting discussions on their particular subjects. Votes of thanks- to the writers closed the .business .of, the evening;. ■.;;./•
