Tararua arrived from Melbourne this morning at daylight, having (eft on the 27th u!t. at 3 p.m. She brings 6 chief and 13 steerage passengers, and 343 tons cargo for all ports. Passengers —Mrs. Richard Powell and child, Mr. W. K. Cooke, Mr. Mirams, Mis. Bazaiue, Miss Levy, Mr. Omegher, and 13 steerage. Melbourne, April 27. Parliament was opened by Commission on Tuesday, and tbe Governor reads his speech this afternoon. The Alhambra arrived on Saturday morning. The Mail steamer sailed punctually on Sunday. Sir James Palmer died on Sunday, his funeral on Wednesday was--" largely attended. Mr. Duffy withdrew from the canditature for tho Speakership^ aud Mr. MacMahon was elected unopposed. Wool firm and quiet; flour' £14 los.; Port M'Dounell wheat wiis auctioned at 6s. 6d. New Zealand wheat was withdrawn at 6s; 6000 bushels New Zealand oats were auctioned at 3s 6d to 3s 7d, but only 3s to 3s 4d for inferior samples. Sales of Devoe's kerosine have taken place at 2s 2d; the sugar market is heavy; teas in better request. 1200 bases of J.D.K.Z. sold at auction at lis 1-Jd. • Hennessy's pale brandy at 6s 9d. •' Shipping.-—Arrived:' Prosperity from Hokitika; Sailed: Sarah aud Mary for Hokitika.
