Entertainment at the Lunatic Asylum. — An entertainment, of which, a fuller report will appear On Monday, was given at the Ajsylum ' last night by the Nelson Artizans. v ;>The entertainment was' followed by a dance, in which the inmates of ihe establishment took part with great spirit. The Fijis. — By the arrival of the Springbok afc Newcastle, New South Wales, news has been. received of a fearful hurricane having occurred at Fiji. Numerous houses in Levuka, and plantations in the neighbourhood were injured and destroyed, and' Several vessels in harbor, or trading along the coast, were driven ashore, among others the Zephyr, Kestrel, and Black Eagle. By the same vessel news has been received of the murder of William Bailey by his partner Henry Scott. Bailey was at one time a stockbroker in Collins-street, Melbourne, and previously a representative of Castlemaine, in the Victorian Assembly. The Melbourne correspondent of lbs Otago Times writes : — 3oth March. I add a postcript to my letter to explain the delay in the transmission of the mails this time. They left bore on the 23rd inst., by the Claud Hamilton, but on that vessel getting about 170 miles from Cape Schanck her port boiler gave way, and she had to put back. Her mails, cargo, and passengers consequently had to be transferred to the Tararua, by which they now come. An enquiry has been held by the . Steam Navigation "Board into the cause or the collapse of the boiler, which, it appeared from the evidence, wan owing . to the neglect of the third engineer, William Wilson, who omitted to keep a proper supply of water in the boiler. The finding adopted by the Board was to the effect that the accident to the Claud Hamilton arose from the gross carlessness of the third engineer, who neglected during his watch to keep the port boiler properly supplied with water. The Board further intimated that had Wilson been iv possession of a certificate it would have been suspended for 12 morjths.
