CORRESPONDENCE.
WABIE A. QUARTZ-CRUSHING CO. To the Editor of the Nelson Eevning Mail. Sir. — Your report of the meeting of the Waimea Quarte Crushing Company seems to me hardly fair. Too much importance is <jiven to the discontented talk of a gentleman named Pearce, and specially your reporter has failed in recording the explanation as to -Mr. Shpehard. The I 'letter of Mr.' Shephard and the remarks of the Legal Manager left no ■Joubt iu the minds of all reasonable share-, holders that Mr, Shephard's conduct was dictated by a simple wish to help us all. He retired from the Company that he might help our interests as a member of the Provincial Executive. Surely, Sir, it is plain that he would lay himself opeu to a coarse and obvious taimt if he used his position to further the interests of a concern iu .which he had a money interest. Therefore he allowed another to acquire his shares, and pay his deposit. The finance of the Company was not affected one farthing by the retirement of Mr. Shephard. Any other shareholder can dispose of hia interest to-morrow in the same way. May I suggest to my brother shareholders that it would be well to leave politics alone when attending a business meeting. Our little venture promises well if carried on in a business way, but anyone can see the end will be ruin, if our meetings are used as a shoeing-horn for unneighborly feelings. . I am, &c, A Shareholder who was Present.
