The Gothenburg left Hobson's Bay at 3 p.m. on the Bth inst., experienced light, variable winds, and arrived at the Bluff at 4.15 p.m. to-day. She sails for Dunedin to-nigbt.

Parliament is expected to meet on the 25th inst. Wright, Secretary of Railways, has been appointed Sheriff of Melbourne. It is expected that Captain Macmahon will he appointed Speaker of the new Assembly ; Mr. Duffy opposes him, also Mr. B. J. Davis. The steamer Barwon from Adelaide to Sydney, laden with wheat, was wrecked on Cape Bridgewater on the 3rd inst. ; passengers and crew saved. The vessel was afterwards beached, and the hull has been sold at auction for £60, and the cargo for £35. There was a ihick fog at the time. The Census was taken on the night of the 2nd inst. William Macklin, brewer, pleaded guilty to forging and uttering, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Au ironclad, supposed to be the Cerberus, is reported off Port Macdonald. The Easter holidays were very generally kept ; weather chaugeable. Breadstuffs are decidedly easier, and there is only a moderate trade demand. Flour, £14. to £15. Adelaide wheat 6s. 6d. to 6s: 9d. ; Victorian, 6s. 3d. The cargo of the Watarlily consisting of 10,000 bushels of oats sold in line 3 at 3s. 7d. There is a fair demand now at 3s. sd. to 3s. Bd. , Two thousand cases of Devoe'rf ketiosene. , has been sold to arrive, quotations! 2s; 4d. to 2s. 4|d. " ' ' ; Sydney. Lloyd, a squatter, recaptured a bushranger who had succeeded in escaping on a previous occasion. A petition, bearing 10,000 signatures, was presented to the Governor praying for a dissolution ; he replied that he would refer it to his constitutional advisers. Bertrand, who is in gaol for Kinder's murder, is insane. At the wool sales, the competition was brisk. The Hero arrived on the 4th, after^a smart passage. A deck house has been found off Howe's Island, and identified as belonging to the Dojiglas, whichtwas wrecked on Elizabeth Ree.fr • : „/ The Byron sighted a large steamer, sailing fast, supposed to be the Queen of the Thames, in latitude 30 deg., longitude .97 deg. on the Ist March. Markets are very quirt j breadstuffs weaker. ' . Adelaide quotations are j — Flour, £12 per ton, and £ll f for country brands. Wheat is firm and offers of ss. 7d. have been refused. Tidemann has been committed for trial on five different charges of larceny.
