CORRESPONDENCE.

0— %* We are desirous of affording every reasonable facility for the discussion of public subjects; but it must be understood that we are in no way responsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir —Fearing possibly a mistake may arise from my statement at the Farmers' Club Meeting on Monday evening, " that the duty on hops should be doubled " I would state I was under the impression that the duty already imposed was 3d per lb, but I find on reference it is only Id ; this doubled would only be 2d, whereas the duty on imported hops should be at least 6d per pound to last, say, five years, so as to enable colonial hop-growers to compete with foreign growers. I am, &c, Alfred Harley.
