Midge, cutter, from Tata Islands. The Anchor Line Co's steamer Charles Edward, arrived at the Albion wharf to-day from her usual round of West Coast ports, after a somewhat protracted J absence caused by the recent severe gales. She reports leaving here on Tuesday the 21st inst., at 7 am. Called at Motueka leaving there at 11 o'clock. Experienced strong N.W. gale in the Bay and took shelter in Astrolabe Roads. Left on Wednesday morning early, but had to again bring up under Separation Point. The weather moderating left at 7p m. and arrived at Westport at 11 am. on Thursday. Sailed at midnight, and crossed Hokitika bar at 11 a.m. Was detained there four days by tremendous westerly gales which rendered the bar impracticable. On Monday took in the Rangitoto's Greymouth cargo and left on Tuesday at 2 p.m., reaching Greymouth at 4 o'clock. Left for Westport at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, arriving early next morning, leaving at 4 p.m. yesterday for Nelson. Experienced fine weather on the passage up, and arrived at 11.30 this morning. We are indebted to Mr. Bennett, the purser, for late West Coast files.
