Jury List. — An Advertisement which appears in our columns to-day, calls a meeiiug of Justices to revise the Jury List for the year. For some reason or other, Good Friday has been selected as the day on which they are invited to meet. The Culliford Mine. — We learn from the Legal Manager of the Culliford Company, that he received a letter from Waugapeka this morning stating that everything was ready for commencing operations, and that the battery was to begin work yesterday. Greymouth Races. — That splendid mare Peeress, has maintained her character at Greymouth as a first-class race horse, she having won everything she started for, including the Greymouth Handicap of 250 soys. Treble X lias also done well, having more than paid her owner the price he gave for her, together with the expeuses of shipping her to the Coast. Acclimatisation — We are informed by Mr. F. Wakefield that he has received a letter from Mr. H. Richmond of Tarauaki advising him of the safe arrival of 12 larks and 15 sparrows, which he kindly sent over to the Provincial Government of Taranaki. Another batch of larks which were despatched by the same gentleman to Mr. Ludlam, of the Hutt, have been turned out there and are said to be doing well. Licensing Meeting. — The quarterly licensing meeting was held this morning, when a Botile License was granted to George Adam of the Haven Road Spirit Store, and the license for the Custom House Hotel was transferred from H. Bennett to J. Tregea. Petitions were presented for and against granting the license to G. Adam, that in his favor containing 31, and that against him 4.8 signatures, the attention of the Bench being called to the fact that the latter included tli9 names of fifteen publicans. The Machinery for Doran's Reef. — There was quite a stir outside Mr. Moutray's foundry this afternoon, on the occasion of the battery made by him for the Doran Company being despatched for the Wangapeka. Of the machinery we shall give full particulars to-morrow, but, in the meantime, it is no more than what is due to Mr. Moutray to say that competent judges from Auckland and the Australian colonies, have after •i-BspectHag — h*9~*weFk-maosh-ip pronounced it quite equal to anything of the kind turned out in Melbourne.
Latest from Auckland. — -Friday, 17th March, 2.30 p.m. — The Caledonian have lodged this morning 1328 ounces, making a total of 11,463 ounces. They are now smelting. The Morning Star crushing is 282 ounces from 80 tons. Montgomery Brothers, a new claim on the Waiotahi have crushed three tons, the result bNeiug 21 ozs. 10 dwts.
