Experienced easterly winds across, and arrived i.t the Bluff Harbor at 8 a.m. to-day. Passengers ; Messrs. Legge, Gordon, and Morris, and the Misggs Clark (3). Cargo ; Dunedin, 196 tons ; Lytteiton, 30 tons ; Wellington, 30 tons ; Nelson, 30 tons. Melbourne; March i. Nimblefoot won the two principal raes at Geelong, aud the Australian Cup at Melbourne yesterday. Thefro have been several arrivals of sugar ships ; the market, however, remain? firm. Audley Coote has gone to Tasmania to negociate with the Goverment for railway exteusiou. He has been in communication with Dyer with reference to the suspension of the railway. \ \ On' the arrival of the Hero at Sydnjey, Tookey shares became excited, but buyers declined to give more than £5 10s. The market is now steady at £5 10s. to £5 12s 6d. No buyers. .' The inter-colouial cricket match commenced yesterday. The 1 Victorians in their first innings scored 198, and Sydney 200. In the second innings of the Victoriaus four wickets had, fallen for 90 runs. The schooner Elderslip, from Java, arrived at Sydney, having encountered a hurricane iv which she lo£t her bulwarks and boats. ! The N. S. Wales Government have determined on releasing Loraudo Jones imprisoned for blasphemy, on his own personal bond for good behaviour for twelve mouths. The markets are quiet. Flour, trade sales, £14 to £14 10s. ■ Wheat 6s. per bushel. Oats firm at 3s. 7;d. to 3s. Bd. Not much offering. Maize k wanted at 4s. 9d. to 4s. lOd. Kerosiup is still in good demand, and holders are demanding full prices at last week's quotations. New Zealand flax ropq, tarred, has been tested and is coming into favor. Sales I have beeu effected at £43 to £56. Flax is worth £16 to £21. There are no buyers/ of New Zealand wheat at over ss. 6d. to; ss. 7d. Mackliu, brewer, has been remanded on three different charges ,of forgery. Bail, was obtained, the.iafst time in two sureties at £50 each,-hu v t he was re-arrested, and bail fixed at £1000. j Wrixon (Solicitor-General) and Hannah have been returned to Parliament. For the remaining 35 seats, 112 candidates have, been nominated. The Gothenburg sails for Dunedin at 4 p.m. to-day. :
