POST OFFICE GRIEVANCES.
To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. S IK — I know of no better method of remedying public grievances than by exposing them in the public papers. Now sir, we inhabitants of Bedstead Gully aud Slateford feel ourselves very much aggrieved at the want of subsidy for the proper carrying of the mails between here and Collingwood. We certainly have the Post-offices, but what good are they? We can put our letters in the office, but there is nobody bound to forward them to Collingwood. We may have letters arrive in CoTlingwood, but there is nobody bound to forward them to either Bedstead Gully or' Slateford; and you cannot expect tliei Postmasters at the handsome salary of £5 per year each to do much towards it, though lately they generously gave 10s per week each to a mailman to carry the same, but it did not pay nor answer, for the outgoing mail was always taken dowu before the incoming mail was received, a*d from 24 to 48 hours before the mail packet left Collingwood so that there was only a casual chaace of answering letters by the same boat. Would you kindly inform us the best remedy for this very uncivilised state of affairs and oblige us Discontents. Collingwood, March 9, 1871.
