Perseverance Company. —At the meeting of shareholders keld last night, Mr. Joseph Harley was erected a director in the place of Mr. A. Sclanders, resigned. Steamer Murray.—We are glad to learn that the steamer Murray is likely to run between our ports as usnal. Mr. Kilgour, of Greyraouth, has purchased it, and intends to run it in the Nelsou and West Coast trade. \ , C ¥' Sporting.-—-By Tthe Charles Edward, which sailed last night for the West Coast, Mr. Redwood shipped^ his. r celebrated mare Peeress to take partLin the Greymouth races, which are to take place aext week. By the same boat, tiie mare XXX was also sent down, she having receyatry been purchased by Mr. Hughes, pffWestport. Mr. v Redwood sends three^more to the Wairau to-morrow, namely, Songstress, Anticipation, and a filly out of Waimea. Droning.—Recently, at Cobden, a little boy, named Alexander Millar, left school and went home; he took a towel and, accompauied by his brother, went to bathe in the river. The poorditftle fellow ran in, thinking it waa shallow water, but it was too deep for him. His brother saw him kick about, and asked him to come out, but seeing him sink he ran away arid hid himself. Two others who were bathing put on their clothes and ran for their brother, who took the body out of

the hole (which was not quite three feet deep), but it had been in too long. The funeral was attended by all the little boy's schoolfellows.
