The Quebec and Gosford wooden railway, which is 25 miles in leugth and has a guage of four feet eight and a half inches, admits of a speed of 20 to 30 miles an?hour for ordinary trains, and the whole cost including right of way, grading tract and rolling stock complete, was only £120,0 a mile. The San Francisco mail telegrams contained the rather mysterious announcement that " the Englishmeft concerned in the massacre at Maratho^Braa been given up." -The following paf^graiph explains it : — "A Reiner's telegram ddted Athens, 11th December, says : — ' Mr. Noel, the Englishman accused of complicity wittt,' the brigands, took to flight on learning that he was committed for trial. Xhe indictment against him is that he counselled the brigands not to surrender the English captives without previously obtaining an j amnesty.'" '• |
