CARTERS v. BOARD OF WORKS.

To tub Editou of the Nelson Evening- Mail. Sir — I wish through your paper, if you will kindly spare me a corner, to call the attention of the Board of Works to what I think has been an oversight on their part, Some months ago the Board called for teuders to supply it with the services of a horse and cart and driver at fourteen shillings a day as occasion might require. Now, Sir, there was no time fixed as to when tbe contract should terminate, which I think was au oversight ; for, supposing a contractor is employed two or three days in the week for a whole twelve months at fourteeu shillings a day, it comes to a nice little round sum. When', there are so many carters out of work and when wages are so low, teuders for such a work as the above should he called for every three months, which I hope the Board will rectify as soon as possible. I am, &c, A Carter.
