s» The Westport Times. — We notice that, this journal has recently changed hand?, and that Mr. Eugene O'Connor is now sole proprietor. Perseverance Company. — We understand that at a meeting of the directors held yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. K. Mabin was appointed Legal Manager of this Company. Golden Bay Election. — By ihe Lady Barkly, which sailed for Collingwood this afternoon, about twenty Rectors took their passages for tlie purpose of recording their votes in favor of Mr. Collins at tbe election which is t) tal« place to-morrow. Motueka Election. — The poll v/as officially declared yesterday at noon, tlie numbers being Monro 193, Parker 193, The Returning offi-er gave his casting vote in favor of Sir D. Monro, who v/as duly elected. A piolest was entered hy Mi\ Pftrkcr. Ahuival or the Enolisi-i Mail at Auckland. — The s.s. Ci'y of Melbourne, witii tho S"tn Francisco mails on board, f\rrivod at Auckhmd at one o'clock this morning, and tin; Airedale may consequently be excreted here to-morrow. We understand (hat telegrams have been received to ihe effect, that severe fighting had taken place before Paris, four of the forts having been captured by the Prussians and retnken by the French. A very Angry Squeak. — We never rerivn.lipr to have seen our contemporary the Colonist in eo bad a tamper as lie displayed this morning in bis article entitled "A very Narrow Squeak."' His whole system appears to lie cnmp'et- ly deranged by the fact, of S*u* David Monro having defeated Mr. P-irker inr the Mo! ueka district, and by the hnmUia-ing conviction (bat all the abuse aad all the reviling that he has of late pour* <1 tVuth on the head of the successful candidate luive not had the desired '•fife .-t. Thi--" im-rning, he does not. confine himself lo one auisignnist, but hiss out all round wil ho ut. resp- cf- to persons. Tlie Examiner, the Mail, a correspondent of that jniirna* who signed himself "A Ploni/liman," Sir David Monro — to all these blows are plentifully administered — but be does not even stop here. Helms a sdde blow at. the offending district of Waimea Wesr, which actually hnd the temerity, in the faee of all that, had been urged by the Colonist to the contrary, to give Sir David Mouro a large majority, and so our contemporary sneeringly alludes to it as " the extreme eastern limit of the district, tacked on to the main district." Five years ago the Colonist supported Mr. Parker against Mr. Duiiou, when the former was returned by the very narrow majority that he polled at Waimea West. We have not yet had time to consult the back files of our contemporary, but we may, we think, safely assert that no disparaging remarks in reference to this " extreme eastern limit of the district" were to be found in his columns at that time But then circumstances alter cases so much.
