The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1871.
Sisters of Mercy — The Celceno which arrived at Wellington on Saturday, brought six sisters of mercy, two of whom purpose residing in Nelson. The Governor has left Wellington on a visit to Hokitika and the various harbors to the southward of that place on the West Coast. He also proposes to visit Otago and Canterbury. Perseverance Company. — The meeting of Directors held yesterday for the purpose of appointing: a Lejial Manager in the place of Mr. H. Curtis, resigned, was adjourned until Monday next. Culliforo Reef. — We are glad to learn that the reef has been opened at a new place, some little distance from the spot at wbicli it was discovered, and that the stone shows indications of being very rich, the gold iv many places being visible to the naked eye. Election foe the Suburbs. — This election took place to-day, but the result is not yet known. There has been no excitement whatever in the town, and the vicinity of the Provincial Hall, the principal polling place, has shown no symptoms whatever of an election taking place in the neighborhood.
