Kennedy returned to port this afternoon, at half past one o'clock, having met with a slight accident to her machinery shortly after leaving Motueka this morning. The necessary repairs are being effected, and she will probably resume her Coast trade on Tuesday next. The Anchor Line steamer Charles Edward arrived at the Albion wharf this afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from her usual round of West Coast ports. She left here last Saturday at noon, and called afc Motueka, leaving there at 3 p.m. Experienced strong S.W. wind aud heavy sea on the passage down, and with difficulty caught Sunday evening's tide at Westport, crossing the bar at 7 p.m. ; discharged a large cargo and sailed at 6 p.m. on Monday. Arrived at Hokitika at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, after a rough passage. Left at 5 p.m., reaching the Grey, at 7 p.m. Sailed again 7 p.m. on Wednesday, encountered strong west gale and tremendous squalls of wind and rain with a high sea. Crossed Buller har at 6 a.m. on Thursday, through a heavy surf. Left for Neleon at 8 'p.m,., with a large number of passengers; arriving as above after a rapid run of 18 hours.
