Most of you are aware that my father and myself have been possessed of property in your dis- . trict, as well as in other parts of the province, for many years, and that I myself have beerflong _ resident amongst you. . r Such being the case, your interests and mine are identical, and my object in seeking to represent you is to have a voice in the regulation of those matters which may conduce to our common benefit, especially as regards the keeping down .of taxation -and Customs duties, as well as of expenditure in all Government departments and undertakings, at the same time, however, doing everything in my power to further the substantial progress of the' colony, together with the • practical development of its industrial resources.
