POST-OFFICE NOTICES.

MAILS CLOSE. For Picton, Wellington, and Southern Ports, per s.s Airedale, to-morrow, at 10 a.m. For New Plymouth and Auckland — per s.s. Rangatira, to-morrow, at 12 noon. The next Home Mail via Suez and Brindisi (only" letters specially adressed) and for India, China. Cape of Good Hope, &c, will be despatched by s.s. Omeo or Alhambra expected about the 15 th inst. Note.—ln consequence of the increasing difficulties which attend the transmission through France of overland mails, addressed via Marsailles, the Postmaster-General of London has determined on sending mails so addressed, until further notice, via Briudisi, Brenner, Prussia, and Belgium. The rates of postage tp' be charged in New Zealand on correspondence for the United Kingdom, via Marseilles^and Brindisi, will, therefore, be as follows : — Rates via Marseilles andjjßßiNDisi. Letters.—Not exceeding £ ounce, Is. 3d,; exceeding £ ounce and not exceeding 1 ounce, 2s. 6d.; exceeding 1 ounce and not exceeding 1J ounce, 3s. 9d ; and so on Is. 3d. for^each £ ounce or fraction of \ ounce. Netvspapers under 4 ounces, each 4d. ; Book and Pattern Parcels.—Not exceeding 1 ounce, 2d.; exceeding 1 ounce and not exceeding 2 ounces, 4d.; exceeding 2 ounces and not exceeding 4 ounces, 7d.; exceeding 4 ounces- and not exceeding 8 ounces, ls. ?d. ■ •> SYDNEY J.
