The Regatta. — A capital opportunity •will be afforded to our friends across the Bay of witnessing the regatta on Monday next, as Mr. Cross purposes putting on his little steamer to start from Motueka at 6 a.m on that day, returning on the follow- , ing day, the return tickets being issued at five shillings. Quarterly Licensing Meeting. — A license was granted to Daniel Talbot for the Sportsmau's Arras, Motueka. The following transfers were effected : — Albion Hotel, Frederick Stock, to James Gilbert Drane ; Postboy Hotel, George Potter, to j James M'Conkey ; Coach aDd Horses, H. D. Eloyd, to George Potter ; Spring Grove Hotel, John Disher, to Alfred James Harman. Permission was granted to the following persons to erect booths for the sale of fermented liquors at the Poit during the Regatta : — Thos. Askew, of the Galatea Hotel ; John Kidson, of the Steamboat Tavern, and J. G. Draoe, of the Albion Hotel. The Magistrates on the bench were J. Sharp Esq., R.M., the Hon. T. Renwick, and R. The Pioneer Company.— Mr. E. H. Davis the Assistant G-eologist, has recently furnished tbe Government with a report of the Collingwood district from which we make the following extract relative to the Pioueer Company's mine: — "Therei is one claim worthy of particular notice as ! having heen taken up to work for copper ore. The lode is situated about half-way i between Appo's and Bedstead Gullies, I and may be traced in the outcrop for a I considerable distance. A shaft has been ' i sunk to a depth of 60 feet, and now the funds are exhausted, and the work is at a standstill. This is very much to be regretted, as the lode contains some fine specimens of chalcopyrite, and although the matrix is not such as usually carries ores of that class, it is remarkably promising, as the character of the lode is uniform, and as long as such is the case a | rich course of ore might be cut at any I moment. If this sett was in England or any other real mining country, it would not be allowed to remain idle for a single day. No metalliferous lodes --ire uniform; for a few fathoms no ore is found and I then a rich course is cut, aud so ou. The manner in which the ore occurs in this lode gives every hope that it will make into brauches in different places, though where it is impossible to indicate."
