Telegraphic Intelligence. — A telegram recived from our Dunedin correspondent this afternoon, states that Mr. Vogei " purposes "addressing the electors of Dunedin to-morrow. — The Governor is to accompany Commodore Stirling on a visit to Otago, in January next.— The escort had arrived with 16,1500z5. of gold. Scientific Association. — The monthly meeting of this Society will take place at the Government Buildings this evening, when members will have the privilege of introducing lady visitors. The discussion ion Mr. Simmons' essay on " Higher Edu- | cation " will be resumed. It is also the intention of Mr. Avery to read a paper on "The prevention of spontaneous combustion in wool and flax,*' A full attendance of members is requested. Waimea South Jockey Club. — A meeting of the members of this club will be held at the Forest Inn to-morrow evening, for the purpose of making arrangements for holding the next steeplechase meeting. These races which have proved most successful for three consecutive years, have become one of the institutions of the Province, and we should be sorry to see them fall through from want of support. Suburban North.— Last night, the Bishop of Nelson visited the above district, and delivered a very interesting address to the inhabitants at Hillside School, describing the progress of Church work in the various districts of the diocese. During the address, a handsomely illuminated Family Bible, (subscribed for by the inhabitants) was presented by the Bishop to Mr. H. Collins, master of Hillside School, in recognition of his services in erecting the seats in the district Church.
