Most of you are aware that my father and myself have been possessed of property in your district, as well as in other parts of the province, for many years, and that I myself have been long •resident amongst you. Such being the case, your interests and mine are identical, and my object in seeking to represent you is to have a voice in the regulation of tbose matters which may conduce to our common benefit, especially as regards the keeping down of -taxation and Customs duties, as well as of exjienditure in all Government departments and «Qdertakings, at the same time, however, doing in my power to further the substantial progress of the colony, together with the practical development of its industrial resources.
