Passengers —Mrs Stafford and 2 children. — steamer Charles Edward, 89, Holmes, from Westport. SAILED. Dec 4, steamer Airedale, 286, Kennedy, for Taranaki and Manukau. 5, schooner Australian Maid, 17, GilbertsoD, for Awaroa.
The Anchor Line s.s. Charles Edward, arrived at the Albion Wharf yesterday, at 1 p.m., having made the run from Westport in less than eighteen hours. The steamer left here last Tuesday, at 3 p.m., arrived at Westport on Wednesday, at 11 a.m., crossing the bar at two o'clock, and discharged 50 tons of cargo Left at daybreak on Thursday, reached Hokitika, at 3 p ni., and sailed at 4 p.m. next morning for Greymouth, arriving there. same tide. Left at 7 p.m., reached the Buller at 6 a.m on Saturday, and sailed at 7 p.m. for Nelson Encountered strong NW. wind accompanied with heavy squalls and high sea untill 10 p m., when wind shifted to W. and finally to S.W. Messes. M'Meckan. Blackwood, and Co.'s s.s. Gothenburg, Captain Pearce. arrived ih harbor yesterday, at 5 p.m., from Melbourne, via Bluff and Dunedin. She left Hobson's Bay, at 4 p.m. on the 19th Nov. ; passed the Heads at 7.30, and Cape Shanck at 10 p.m. ; Swan Island was passed on the following day at 10.30 p.m. Light winds were experienced for the first two days, followed by a strong south-east gale, with a heavy sea for 24 hours, during which she was hove-to ; fine weather was then met with to arrival at the Bluff, at 8 am. on the 26th. Left at 6 p.m.. and arrived at Port Chalmers at 8.30 a.m. on the 27th. Left again at 10 a.m. on the 29th, arriving at Lyttelton, 9.15 a.m. on the 30th. Left Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m., Hon tlie Ist inst, and arrived in Wellington, at 3.30 p.m. on the 2nd. Left Wellington at 12 p.m. on the 3rd, and arrived in N-idson as above. We are indebted to Mr. Pringle, the purser of the Airedale, for the following report of that vessel's trip from the Bluff:— The s.s. Airedale, A. Kennedy, Commander, left the Bluff ori Nov. 29, at 4.30 p.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers the following morning at 10.30. Sailed from thence on Ist Dec. at 4 p.m. and arrived alongside Peacock's wharf at 12.30 p.ra. on the 2nd, having enc untered strong north-east winds and head sea from the Bi nff. Left Port Cooper same date at. 10.15 p.m. •,- Variable winds and weather to Cape Campbell; from thence to Wellington fresh north-west winds; reached the last-named port at 4.30 Saturday afternoon. "Discharged, loaded, aad coaled, received Californian mails at midnight, and mailed at 12.30 a.m. Sunday; fresh j north-west winds in the Straits with heavy j squalls. "Arrived at Picton same evening at 5.30; left there at 7.15 a.ra.; nonh-west winds aud squally, rainy weather. j
