The Anchor Line Cos. s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, arrived this morning at 11.30. She left Nelson on Thursday 24th ult., at 10.30 p.m., experienced fresh S.W. breeze and arrived in Westport at 1 a.m. on Saturday ; discharged 10 tons cargo, shipped 15l0ozs gold, and left for Greymouth at 3 a.m. on Sunday, crossing the bar at noon same day ; discharged 11 tons cargo, took in 16 tons coal, and sailed for Hokitika at 2 p.m. on Monday, crossed the bar at 1 a.m. on Tuesday ; landed 7 tons cargo, shipped 15 tons cargo and 3000 feet timber, and left again at 2 p.m. for Greymouth, arriving there at 3.45 p.m., having made the run (20 miles) between the two ports in 1 hour 45 minutes. Landed cargo, took in 19 tons coal and sailed at 4 a.m. for Westport, crossing the bar at 2 p.m. ; discharged timber and left at 3.30 for Nelson, arriving as above. The race between the Kennedy and Murray on this occasion resulted in a tie, the Kennedy having been partially cleaned during her last visit to Nelson.
