The Anchor Line Co's p.s. Charles Edward arrived at the Albion Wharf this morning at 6.45, after a splendid run of eighteen hours and a-quarter. Capt. Holmes reports leaving here last Saturday, at 6 p m. and arriving at Westport on Sunday afternoon. Left again on Monday at 8 p.m., and arrived at Hokitika, at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Left again the following morning and crossed the Grey Bar at noon on Wednesday Left for Westport on Thursday, at 11 a.rr. Whilst crossing the bar encountered tremendous seas which filled the decks and threw the vessel on her beam ends. A. succession of heavy seas swept over the vessel with such violence as to dash the mate from the wheel and seriously injure two men on deck. Orders to cut away the boats and throw the deck cargo overboard, but before this could be done she right d, and by knocking away the gangways the decks were emptied. Arrived at Westport same night at 11, leaving on Friday, at 12.30 p.m. for Nelson.
