Hope Sunday School. — The Tea, Meeting in connection with this school, j which was advertised to take place on j Tuesday last was obliged to be adjourned on account of the inclemency of the weather, and will take place to-morrow afternoon. Cricket. — Owing to the inclemency of the weather yesterday the match between the Artizans and the College has been postponed until to-morrow, when it will be played in the Botauical Gardens in the afternoon. Harmonic Society. — We are requested to call attention to an advertisement stating that the practice to-night will consist of the Messiah. Members are requested to provide themselves with their scores. Telegraphic. — A notice posted up at the office informs the public that communication with Hokitika and Wanganui is interrupted, thus precluding all chance of hearing to-day of the arrival of the Omeo with news of the Melbourne races. Excursion to Motueka.— lu order to meet the views of those who are desirous of witnessing tbe cricket m-.tch on Saturday next, Mr. Cross has advertised that the Lady Barkly will leave Nelson at 7 a.m. on that day, starting from Motueka on the return trip at 7.30 p.m. '

Resident Magistrate's Court. — An action was brought ia this Court to-day by A. S. Dreyer against the Superintendent of Nelson to recover the sum of £43 10s. being the amount of damages alleged to bave beeu sustained by the plaintiff through a breach of contract on the part of the defendant iv not issuing a lease for ten acres of land in the district of Wangapeka. Owing to Mr. Fell, the plaintiff's solicitor, being engaged in the Supreme Court, the hearing of the case was adjourned until to-morrow morning, at 11 o'clock. The Upper Buller. — We call attention to the interesting communication we have received from this district which *we publish in to-day's issue. Probably, many of our readers, in common with ourselves, were iguoraul of the important works tbat are being carried out in the Upper Buller and Matakitaki country. The fact of its beiug considered worth their while by those who have the best opportunities of forming an opinion as to the value of the district to undertake operations of so important and expensive a nature, is sufficient to prove tbat they have no small faith in the gold-bearing qualities of the country. The want of roads appears to be tho main drawbacks to the advancement of this portion of our province, aud we hope to see this evil remedied to such au extent during the present summer season, that miners from all parts of the colony may be induced to try their fortune in a district that, hitherto, has been comparatively neglected. Marlborough Elections. — The Express iv reporting the sale of property in the estate of Monro Brothers, says: — "The attendance was very numerous, and we learn that opportunity was taken by some persons present to utilise the occasion by doiug a little cauvassiug on behalf of Mr. H. Redwood for the House of Representatives, in view of the coming elections. The iuduction of the Rev. John Baunatyne to Picton took place on Sunday week in the Union Church, Picton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. Sheriffs, of Blenheim, who preached an excellent sermon on the occasion. He afterwards spoke a few words in allusion to the charge which the Rev. Mr.Bannatyne had taken upon himself, its duties, responsibilities, &c. ; and concluded by reminding the congregation that it had onerous duties also. The attendance was large. A soiree in counectiou with the above was held in the Government Buildiugs, and was a most decided success.
