The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1870.
We sre indebted to Mr. Willcocks, pur- _ ser of the Kennedy, and Mr, Bisley, • purser of the Murray, for late files of ' West Coast papers. Fire Bells. — We call atteution to the , advertisement staling that the fire-bells at i the engine-bouse and the Port will be rung for trial to-morrow eveuing, at 7 o'clock. Hope Sunday School. — The eighteenth , anniversary of this school will be cele--1 brated by a tea party and public meeting to-morrow afternoon, i Perseverance Company. — An extraordinaty meeting of the shareholders, to take into consideration the report of Mr. ' J. C. Richmond, aud to elect a director ' in the place of Mr. Goulstone, is to be : held at the Assembly Room, this evening, at 7 o'clock. Waimea Quartz-crushing Company. Mr. Luckie, tbe Legal Manager of this * Company, who returned to Nelsou iu the Stormbird, on Saturday, informs us that he has succeeded in purchasing an excel- , lent ten-stamper battery, which can, if re--1 quired, be increased to fifteen head of ' stampers. The machinery will arrive in the next steamer. His Honor the Superintendent and Mr. ' Sheph rd the Provincial Tieasurer rej turned in the Kennedy yesterday, after a i three weeks visit to the Coast. From the Westport Times of Saturday last, we ; learn that tbe telegraphic account of the Superintendent's meeting at the Ahaura, whicb appeared in the Friday's Colonist, : is incorrect. It is there stated that "a ' vote of want of confidence in the Superintendent and the Executive was passed by a large majority ;" whereas the resolution really was — " That the explanation of his Honor the Superintendent was not at all satisfactory to the people of the Grey Valley, inasmuch as there is no implied promise given of the public works being proceeded with immediately." The statement that the Superintendent replied that "he did not care, for he was accustomed to that sort of thiug " is utterly without foundation. The result of lhe official visit has been to create a much more frieudly feeling between the inhabitants of the West Coast and the members of the Government, and to remove many false impressions that existed with regard to the imaginary neglect of that district by the Government.
