HELP THE SUFFERERS.

To the Editor op the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir —The diastrous ffre which has taken place at Canterbury, has, no doubt, left many families homeless and penniless. Is it not our duty to assist our fellow colonists in this misfortune ? If the Artizans' Association, or Harmonic Society, or both, were to give public entertainments for the benefit of these sufferers, I am certaia the public would show their sympathy by crowded houses. The country districts could also be appealed to in like manner, and I have liot the least doubt but that a very handnome sum would be collected. Let us remember " A friend in need is a friend indeed." Yours, &c., Wakapuaka,
