Mr. Blackett. — Mr. Blackett, the acting Colonial Euginecr, left Nelson for Wellington by the Taranaki this afternoon oa a six months' ieave of absence from his Provincial duties. Nelson Regatta. — At a meeting of the Club held last eight, ifc was resolved immediately to open the subscription list. At the next meeting which wili be held in a fortnight, the programme of Races and prizes will be drawn up. Assembly Room. — To-night is to be be given the last performance of the Dramatic Companjr now here, and we would strongly advise all who have not yet seen Miss Bowring in the Malediction Scene from Leak, to pay a visit to the Assembly room this evening. Bank of New Zealand. — At the half-yearly meeting of the proprietors, held in Auckland on Wednesday, 26th tilt., it was decided to declare a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum, and to pay a bouus of ss. per share, equal to 5 per cent, per annum. Commission of the Peace. — Victoria, ■ by the grace of God, &c, has addressed 802 of her trusty and loving subjects in New Zealand, whose names are published in the Gazette of Thursday last as having been appointed Justices of the Peace. The "Laws, Ordinances, and Statutes, in force for the punishment of offenders, the preservation of the peace and for the quiet rule, welfare, and good government of our people " should be ■well kept in a colony where 802 out of a population of 250,000 are Justices of the Peace. The Marseilles Mail. — The Times of September 8, stated that it had received notice from the French Post-office that the outgoing mail for India, Australia, &c., would, in order to avoid Paris, be sent by way of Amiens, Rouen, and Tours, to Marseilles where the packet would aw^ii its arrival. Postponement of the Melbourne Race Meeting. — Owing to the long continued rains, by which the course has been completely flooded, the Stewards of the Victoria Eacing Club have decided to postpone the races for one week. They will consequently commence to morrow I the sth inst., and tha Cup wili bo run for on Thursday next.
