0 _ , (Before J. Sharp £>isq_. S.M.) I This Day. ! Ursula Currull was charged by Inspector ■ ShaHcrass with attempting to commit suicide^ by ;' throwing herself orer the wharf on Monday i night. ! D. EL Murdoch stated that he saw the prisoner j walk down the wharf on the evening in question j in the middle of the tramway, and when she got j near the angle of the wharf 3he stumbled and fell, j She parlially raised herself, crawled to the edge, and with a scream jumped into the water. He lowered himself down by a rope, laid hold of, and held her up until a boat was brought. He believed prisoner to be half drunk at the time. After the customary warning, prisoner declined to make any statement and was committed for trial. Air. Carroll, prisoner's husband, begged his Worship to reconsider the case as he was sure the prisoner did not realise her position, or that she was charged with attempting to destroy herself. She had beea suffering 1 from hysteria lately, and had fallen off the wharf from sheer weakness. His Worship said that these were facts to be adduced at the trial. He would accept bail for her appearance, her husband in £50 and two sureties of £-25 each. Mr. Carroll : My dear Sir, it would be impossible for me to obtain bail in a strange place like this. His Worship : I can't help that. I have no option in the matter, but am bound to commit the prisoner. I Prisoner was then removed. !
