ARRIVAL OF THE RANGITOTO OFF HOKITIKA.
The Rangitoto arrived off Hokitika at three o'clock this afternoon, but as she could not communicate with the shore before 5 p.m., no news had been forwarded up to the time of our going to press. We may expect to receive our telegrams at a late hour to-nighf, and shall get out an Extra containing the principal items of European news as early as possible in the morning.
Pioneer Company. — A meeting of the shareholders of the Pioneer Company will be held at the Trafalgar Hotel to-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock, when a full attendance is requested, as business of importance will be transacted.
Scientific AssociATiON.--This Society will hold its monthly meeting (o-morrow evening in the Government Buildiugs, when a paper on "The best means of supplementing the Education of the Colouy, and communicating useful and refining instruction," will be read by Mr. F. C. Simmons. The subject being one of general interest, members now have the privilege of introducing lady visitors. Accident at the Wharf. — Last night about 1 1 o'clock a woman named Mrs. Carroll walked over the wharf in a state of intoxication; foitunately there were people about at the time, and she was, after some time and trouble, rescued from her perilous position in a complete state of exhaustion.
Assemble Room. — We would remind our readers that the talented little theatrical company at present in Nelson are to give two more performance?, the first of which will take place to-morrow, on which occasion the drama of East Lynne will be presented for the first time in this town. This has been pronounced to be Miss Bowring's chef cfceuvre, and should attract a full house. Those who saw this lady's magnificent rendering of Leah last night, will be able to form some idea of her splendid histi ionic talent, and will no doubt take advantage of the two remaining opportunities of witnessing her acting.
Wesleyan Missions. — A well attended meeting iv counection with the Wesleyan Mission Society was held in the Church last night, Mr. Watkin in the chair. A hymn having been sung by the Church choir, a chapter from the Holy Scriptures was read, and a prayer offered up, after ■which the Chairman delivered an address, which was followed by an anthem. The Secretary then read the annual report, which will shortly be published, at the close of which the anthem "Lord of all power and might," was sung by the choir. The following resolutions were unanimously adopted ; moved by Mr. Wagg, and seconded by Mr. Taylor, "That the report now read be adopted, and that the success of Christian Missions among the Islands of the Sou^h Sea calls for gratitude to Grod, who has given the gospel-word, and who has declared that it shall not return unto him void." Moved by the Rev. Mr. Wotkin, and seconded by the Rev. E. Thomas, " That this meeting regards the command of the Lord Jesus Christ to preach the gospel to every creature as binding upon his servants, and pledges itself to increased effort in the Mission cause." Several other hymns and anthems were most excellently sung, and after a vote of thanks to the chairman, the Rev. P. Calder for his sermoD, the Rev. E. Thomas, and the Choir, the benediction was pronounced and the meeting separated.
